Apply for Emergency Grants

CARES Act Emergency Student Grants

The federal government is providing emergency student grants through the CARES Act. Washburn University has secured additional financial resources to assist all students, including law students, who may be experiencing financial difficulties. Awards range from $100 to $6195 and will continue until funds are exhausted.

  • Students can apply for one-time assistance with unforeseen expenses for technology, health care, or other items as a direct result of COVID-19.
  • All students enrolled Fall 2020 are eligible to apply even if aid was received from another campus emergency fund before this date.
  • To Apply: review, complete, and submit the application.

An email will be sent communicating review of your application. Direct deposit is the quickest way to receive emergency funds (learn how to setup direct deposit).

Revised September 22, 2020.

Law Student Emergency Assistance Application

AccessLex is helping current J.D.-seeking law students with emergency expenses through a generous grant to Washburn Law.

  • Unlike the law school emergency loan program, students in their final semester are eligible to apply, and the aid does not have to be repaid.
  • Aid can be granted only once during a student's time in law school. Total aid granted cannot exceed a maximum amount of $599.
  • Aid is paid directly to creditors, such as landlords or utility companies.
  • The student must be in good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above).

The Washburn University Alumni Association and Foundation administer this program.
