Attending law school in the Midwest -- specifically in Topeka -- has advantages for those focused on excelling in law school and thriving in an intellectual environment. Here, the law school community offers a supportive atmosphere conducive to scholarship and studying. At Washburn Law you're automatically part of the family and greeted with the distinct Kansas kindness. You will discover a strong sense of ethics that will guide you along the path to the practice of law.

A capital opportunity

Washburn Law is located just west of Kansas City, in the capital of Kansas. With a metropolitan population of 150,000, Topeka maintains its "small town" qualities rooted in Midwestern values, a strong work ethic, and hospitality. Our proximity to the State Capitol, Kansas Supreme Court, Federal Courthouse and numerous state agencies provides an ideal setting that offers unique and varied opportunities to learn about lawmaking, judicial decision-making, administrative law and the regulatory process.

You will have a genuine advantage attending law school in the hub of state government and the home of local, state, and federal courts. Many of these organizations provide Washburn Law students with internships and externships that offer opportunities to gain practical skills before graduation. Topeka is also home to large corporations that serve regional, national and global customers and clients, and provide Washburn Law students with internships and externships.

10% lower living expenses

Topeka's overall cost of living index is more than 10 percent below the national urban area average, particularly in the housing market. NBC's Today Show recently recognized our community as being a top 10 city in which to buy a home. Our quality schools, access to diverse cultural experiences, welcoming people and low housing costs enhance the overall quality of living.
