Free legal services from the Washburn Law Clinic

Do you need a lawyer but can't afford to pay for one? The Washburn Law Clinic offers free legal services in a variety of practice areas.

Legal services
The Washburn Law Clinic is staffed by upper-level law students who are closely supervised by experienced faculty attorneys. The Cl We provide free legal services to individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations in areas such as:

Civil practice

Handles a range of cases including consumer, landlord-tenant, public benefits, probate, estate planning, name change and criminal record expungement.

Criminal justice

Provides free legal representation for people who have been arrested or charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses and cannot afford a lawyer.

Family justice & immigration

Represents parents, children, and survivors of gender-based violence in applying for immigration relief and in family law cases, such as divorce, minor guardianship, and stepparent adoption.

Small business & nonprofit transactional law

Offers organizational and transactional legal assistance to start-ups, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations throughout the state of Kansas. The clinic does not handle litigation or business disputes.

Scheduling an appointment

The Washburn Law Clinic represents clients who cannot afford to pay for an attorney. For assistance, please call us at 785.670.1191 for an intake interview. After intake, one of the supervising attorneys will decide whether the Washburn Law Clinic will take your case.
