"Intellectual Property Practice in the Age of Emerging Technologies" Panel Discussion

This is the inaugural event for the Intellectual Property and Technology Center, the newest Center for Excellence at Washburn Law. The Center will bring together a cross-section of the intellectual property community, including IP scholars, law firm practitioners, in-house counsel, and policy makers.

Description:

Technological change has already had a profound impact on legal practice and will continue to do so in the coming months and years. In no sector is this impact more apparent than in intellectual property law. The rapid growth of new technologies, including but not limited to artificial intelligence technologies, is fueling a revolution in the way we think about innovation, inventorship, and infringement. These technologies also are affecting practices in practical ways, from augmenting traditional methods used to conduct conflict and priority searches to complicating protections against unauthorized use of intellectual property. Panelists will discuss ways in which emerging technologies have impacted their fields of practice, analyzing how such technologies are likely to impact legal practice in the near future.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Kimberly Honeycutt, Managing Director, Corporate Patent Portfolios and Strategy, and Interim Global Head of Intellectual Property, Elanco
  • Mr. Bryan Walker, Intellectual Property Counsel, 3M
  • Ms. Clarissa Harvey, Visiting Assistant Professor of Law, Washburn University School of Law
  • Ms. Paige Reese, Intellectual Property Attorney, Husch Blackwell
  • Ms. Anna Quinn, Principal, Patent Attorney, Avek IP
