Lynn Ward, '90, and Scott Mann, representing the Kansas Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), presented Washburn Law's Children and Family Law Center (CFLC) with a check for $3,000 to be used for furthering Center activities. The funds were raised as a result of a successful and well-attended Advanced Family Law CLE held on September 18, 2015, in Overland Park, Kan. "I am grateful for the partnership of the Children and Family Law Center and the Kansas Chapter of the AAML," said Center Director Linda Henry Elrod, '72, upon receiving the gift.

The CLE was presented jointly by the CFLC and the Kansas Chapter of the AAML. Ward and Mann, both leaders in the Kansas Chapter, worked to develop and present the CLE. The program bought together family law practitioners from across the United States to speak on advanced family law topics and was a follow-up to the fall 2013 Advanced Family Law CLE. The next joint day-long CLE program will be held in September 2017.

Presentations at the 2015 CLE included: Same-Sex Marriage and its Impact on Family Law in Kansas, Advanced Military Pension Division, Family Law Issues - Did You Know?, Family Law Attorney Tricks and Witness Traps, Family Law Ethics: New Traps for the Unwary, and Ten Hot Tips from 10 AAML Fellows.

“The AAML’s ability to bring in nationally known lawyers in specialty areas draws a large crowd,” said Elrod. “Additional benefits are the generosity of the Kansas AAML in providing funds for the Children and Family Law Center programming, and our students can attend the CLE for free.”
