Washburn Student Bar Association’s fall 2014 Barristers’ Ball raised more than $2,700, which was donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Kansas in Topeka earlier this month.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children staying at nearby hospitals. The donation will provide 100 nights through the Share-A-Night program.

Barristers’ Ball Chair Kayla Roehler presented a check to Susan Smith, president of the board of directors, and Aine Nevar, house manager, in Washburn Law’s commons area.

Every year, WSBA organizes the Barristers’ Ball and solicits donations from local vendors, law school alumni, and faculty. Washburn Law professors donate items for a silent auction, which starts prior to the Ball and ends at the event. A different charitable organization is selected each year.

Items auctioned ranged from a Super Bowl party with Associate Deans Jalen Lowry and Jo Hunt, to basketball games against Professor Jeff Jackson and Professor Glashausser, to an autographed KU basketball and KSU football.

The 2014 Barristers’ Ball was held on November 1 at the Great Overland Station in Topeka.
