How To Set Up Double-Sided Printing

These instructions only apply to duplex printers which can print on both sides of the page.

Your laptop should be running Windows XP. (If you use another Operating System, see the Computer Help Desk staff for assistance.)

Setup Your Laptop to Print on Both Sides of the Page

  1. On the Start menu, select 'Printers and Faxes'.
  2. Right-click on your target printer icon and select 'Properties'.
  3. Steps 3-6 - Access your printer's properties and alter the Device Settings. Left-click the 'Device Settings' tab.
  4. Scroll down to Installable Options and left-click Duplex Unit.
    • Note: if it does not have 'Duplex: Installed' as an option, you may be using the wrong printer driver for this printer. Please contact Jewel Makda at x1776 or email jewel.brueggeman-makda [at] washburn.edu for support.
  5. Select Installed from the drop-down list.
  6. Also, change Allow Manual Duplexing to 'Disabled'. Click ' Apply'.
  7. Step 7 - Select the Printing Preferences on the General tab. Open the 'General' tab and click 'Printing Preferences' at the bottom.
  8. Step 8 - Activate the Print on Both Sides Option under the Finishing tab. Find the ' Print on Both Sides' option under either under the ' Finishin'" tab.
  9. Click 'Apply' then 'OK'.

NOTE: You can setup one printer for duplex printing and one without duplex printing. This provides you with the freedom to chose when you want to use the duplex feature without changing any more settings. Remember to rename your printer, for example "Wireless 1 Duplex", so you know which one is setup for duplex printing.
