How To Install the Wireless Printers on Windows XP

If you have not downloaded the printer drivers, go now to 'How To Install A Wireless Printer Driver.'

Install the Printer

  1. Step 1 - Printers & Faxes windows.Click the Start button to begin; then select Settings, then select Control Panel followed by Printers and Faxes and Select 'Add a printer' from the 'Printer Tasks' menu.
  2. Step 2 - Add Printer Wizard.Click 'Next.'
  3. Step 3 - Choose Local Printer.Make sure the Automatically detect ... checkbox is NOT selected, then click 'Next'
  4. step 4 - Create a new port for each printer.Be sure to select Create a new port with Standard TCP/IP Port in the slot.
  5. Step 5 - Add Port Wizard.Click 'Next'
  6. Step 6 - Enter the IP Address of the wireless printer.Type in the IP number in the first box as shown. (All of Washburn's "wireless" are HP 4250 printers and will use the same driver.)
    • Wireless 1 is 198.252.9.137 (2nd Floor)
    • Wireless 2 is 198.252.9.158 (2nd Floor)
    • Wireless 3 is 198.252.9.168 (3rd Floor)
    • Wireless 4 is 198.252.9.169 (4th Floor)
  7. Step 7 - Finish Install Port Wizard.If you are happy so far, click 'Finish.'

    If you have already installed one of the new wireless printers, your computer will know where the appropriate drivers are. Go to Step(9).

    If you have NOT installed one of the new wireless printers, go to Step (10).
  8. Step 9 - Select the printer driver (if you have already installed one of the printers).If you have already installed one of the new wireless printers, you must select 'HP' as the Manufacturer and 'HP LaserJet 4250 PCL 6' as the Printer.

    Once you have selected this printer driver, go on to Step(13).
  9. Step 10 - Browse for the printer driver if you just installed it.If you have not yet installed one of the new wireless printers, 'HP Laserjet 4250 PCL6' will not be an available option in the list of printer drivers. You should then click the 'Have Disk' button.

    ('Have Disk' allows the user to specify the location of the driver they want to use. No external disk is necessary if you followed the directions provided in 'HOW TO Install a Printer Driver.')
  10. Step 11 - Choose where on the drive to find the printer driver.The 'Install From Disk' window should pop up. In the space where 'A:' is the default entry listed, you should type 'C:\HP LJ 4x50' and click 'OK.'

  11. Step 12 - Select the HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6 driver.You must select 'HP LaserJet 4250 PCL 6' from the options presented next, and then click 'Next.'
  12. Step 13 - Use the existing driver, if it lets you.If you are presented with the question of whether to use the existing driver, choose to do so.
  13. Step 14 - Name your printer.Name the printer anything that you want and decide if you want this printer to be your default printer, then click 'Next.'
  14. Step 15 - DO NOT share this printer.Click 'Next.'
  15. Step 16 - Print a test page.You will want to print a test page to verify that your installation works. Click 'Yes' and 'Next.'
  16. Step 17 - Finish Add Printer Wizard.Click 'Finish,' your test page printer will begin, and a popup will appear:
  17. Step 18 - Verify that you test page printed.Click 'OK' and you are done. Your new printer should appear in the 'Printers and Faxes' screen.
  18. Step 19 - Now you are ready to set your printer up for Double-Sided Printing.
