Application for the Washburn University School of Law-
Maastricht University Study Abroad Program
Washburn law students who have completed one year of full-time study, and who are in good standing, are qualified to seek enrollment in the Program.
Students interested in applying to the Maastricht study abroad program should submit the following items to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs by March 1 of the academic year immediately preceding the academic year that the student wishes to be enrolled in the Program:
- A personal statement indicating the student's reasons for attending Maastricht University. The statement should include: how the Maastricht program will impact the student's legal education and how the student believes his or her life experiences demonstrate the student's ability to adapt to a new environment and excel in an international academic environment. The statement should consist of 500-750 words.
- A current resumé.
- Two references, one of whom must be a law professor. No letters of recommendation should be submitted with the application, only the telephone numbers, email addresses, and mailing addresses of the chosen references.
- A copy of the student's law school transcript.
- A statement of which semester the student wishes to be enrolled in the program or whether the student is applying for a full-year enrollment and, in particular, whether the student will be simultaneously applying to the Maastricht LL.M. Programs (see Simultaneous Enrollment in the Maastricht LL.M. Program).
- Once the student has been accepted by the Washburn University School of Law to the Maastricht Program, the student must then complete the necessary paperwork required by the School of Law and Washburn University's International Programs Study Abroad Office, including paying application fees, as well as applying to the International Programs of Maastricht University's Faculty of Law.
In the event that a student wishes to withdraw his or her application, a written statement is required indicating the student's desire to withdraw. The statement must be submitted to both the Director of the International Legal Programs and Washburn University's International Programs Study Abroad Office. Students who find they must withdraw their application are encouraged to do so as soon as possible so that students on the "wait list" can have an opportunity to enroll in the Program.
