Accommodations and Facilities

Students will be housed in Sherlock Hall, which has been recently renovated. It consists of single rooms and double rooms and each floor shares kitchen facilities and bathrooms that have toilets, showers, and a bathtub. The rooms are furnished with a single bed, desk, dresser, closet and Internet access. The rooms are not air conditioned, but have adequate cross breezes from their hill top setting overlooking the ocean. The main floor of the dormitory has an air-conditioned TV lounge, and the laundry room has token operated washers and dryers. Included in the housing fee is a twice weekly cleaning of the individual rooms, a supply of clean bed and bath linens twice a week, and daily weekday cleaning of the kitchen and bathrooms. The dormitory entrance is staffed by 24 hour security guards and next door is the student cafeteria. Also a few doors from the dorm is the student health center, the bookstore, and the ATM booth. The law school is a short walk across campus, on the other side of the cricket oval. Lunch on class days is included in the housing fee.

Accessibility

The buildings and dormitories on the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies are accessible (with limited exceptions) to individuals with differing abilities. For students with differing abilities, room costs and other housing amenities will not differ from the accommodations described above. The Cave Hill Campus, and Barbados in general, may not be accessible in all circumstances. Any inquiries in this regards should be directed to the Director of International Legal Programs or the Program Co-Directors.

Classrooms

The classrooms are located in the Faculty of Law building, a modern facility that also houses the Law Library.

"Law Library of the University of West Indies at the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados is centrally located within the Faculty of Law, and forms an integral part thereof. With modern and functional facilities and a rapidly developing collection of West Indian and other Commonwealth legal materials, it is considered the primary legal library in the region. The book collection, now numbering in excess of 110,000, includes most of the statutes, law reports, texts, law revision commission reports, etc. of the major Commonwealth countries as well as a basic selection of American legal materials. The Law Library subscribes to approximately 620 legal periodicals. The collection's unique feature is the West Indian section, including pre-1900 laws of the region which have been acquired on microfilm. Available to the Law Library's users are QUICKLAW, the online full-text database of Canadian law; WESTLAW, one of the largest U.S. legal databases and CARILAW a database of West Indian legislation and cases."

The Law Library is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
