Students enrolled in specified courses may elect to take their midterm and final examinations using their personal laptop computers.

Computer exams require the use of specialized examination software (SofTest by ExamSoft) and therefore interested students must decide whether or not to pursue the computer exam option well in advance of the examination. In order to be eligible to take a computer exam, students must:

There is NO fee for using ExamSoft.

Students should be aware that they are solely responsible for any technical problem that may arise during an examination, and no exam relief or additional time will be granted for malfunctioning equipment, such as software problems, hardware problems, loss of power, etc. While limited technical support solely regarding the function of the SofTest program will be available from a central proctor (i.e., one not physically present in the examination room), no hardware support or other technical assistance will be provided by Washburn. In the event of any serious malfunction, students should complete the remainder of the examination in handwriting using standard bluebooks. SofTest automatically backs-up your work for you every minute; therefore, answers written prior to the malfunction should be recoverable from the computer's hard drive.

It is not possible to take secure exams through a virtual operating system such as Microsoft's Virtual Machine, Parallels or VMware, VMware Fusion, or any other virtual operating system environment.

ExamSoft offers a Native version of SofTest for the Mac OS. This version does not require installation via Boot Camp or a Windows operating system.
