Alumni Newsletter | November 2009
It has been an event-filled fall at Washburn University School of Law. Last month, the Washburn Law Clinic was featured in the Topeka Capital-Journal. The Dean's Circle event on October 10 was a great success. Later in the month, Daryl Craft, '77, hosted an alumni and admissions reception at his home in Lawrence, and nearly 50 alumni attended the event. The Wichita event at Yia Yia Eurobistro had a great turnout with more than 100 people in attendance.
Also in October, Washburn Law hosted a symposium on Oil and Gas Jurisprudence II. We also welcomed the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims to the Robinson Courtroom, and Chief Justice Robert E. Davis spoke to law students.
I invite you to read more about these events in this issue of the Alumni Newsletter.

The panel of three judges - Chief Judge William P. Greene Jr. (left), Judge Bruce E. Kasold, and Judge Robert N. Davis - heard oral arguments in the case of Hickson v. Shinseki. Students were able to listen to the argument and ask questions of the judges afterward.

Fall 2009 Incoming Class
Washburn Law welcomed an impressive class of 151 students this fall. Applications were up 25% over the previous year. Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, Washburn Law implemented a scholarship strategy that targets specific students with larger scholarships. The use of these scholarships improved our competitive position, which allowed us to increase our LSAT scores by two points over last year.
