Our Faculty
The hallmark of Washburn Law is the broad legal education our faculty collectively offers to students. The diversity of faculty education, teaching experience, and perspective ensures that you receive an expansive view of the law through intense intellectual experiences and exposure to current legal issues. Our adjunct faculty members – selected practicing lawyers and sitting judges – provide additional practical insights and specialized experiences.
Dedicated Public Servants
Washburn Law faculty members contribute to the growth of the legal profession and to the betterment of society. One professor leads efforts to establish equal rights for sexual minorities. Our library director serves on the international board of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, and other professors provide pro bono representation on educational issues and divorce matters for low-income clients.
Nationally Recognized Scholars
Faculty scholarship and professional activity enhance the education of our students and development of the law. Washburn Law faculty members devote significant effort to their respective areas of work and are recognized experts – then bring that experience to the classroom to ensure that course content remains current and engaging.
Our faculty includes prominent scholars who write articles for nationally recognized law reviews, publish books and reference-book entries, present to national and international organizations, and serve as leaders of professional groups. Examples of scholarship include two leading casebooks co-authored by our faculty members, one on family law and the other in the field of oil and gas law. Another faculty member has written a leading constitutional law reference text while another professor consistently publishes in the area of Islamic Law. A Law Clinic professor recently published simulated case files for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
A Washburn Law professor has published Expert Learning for Law Students, now in its second edition, and collaborated with professors at other law schools to publish Teaching Law by Design: Engaging Students from the Syllabus to the Final Exam. Our students benefit from the multitude of opportunities to collaborate with faculty members, provide research assistance, and prepare new publications.
