Washburn Law to host Discover Law Day 2018

discover law day 2018 flierWashburn Law is partnering with Boys & Girls Club of Topeka to expose middle and high school students to law school at Discover Law Day on January 3 at the law school.

Area Boys & Girls Club members will visit our campus to take part in a day of discovery and exploration about law school, legal careers, and their rights as citizens. Over lunch, attorneys from the immigration, adoption, and tribal law fields will speak to their experiences in law school and the importance of diversity in the legal profession. An informative "Know Your Rights" program will educate the students on how to protect themselves and how their actions today can impact their opportunities tomorrow. Students will also gain insight on how they can attend law school in the future.

“Washburn Law is excited to continue our outreach efforts by offering programs designed to promote diversity and community collaboration," said Preston Nicholson, Washburn Law admissions director. "We look forward to welcoming members of the Topeka Boys & Girls Club to our campus!”

Discover Law Day was developed by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) to support and sustain representational diversity in the legal profession. The campaign's goal is to "encourage racially and ethnically diverse students to discover career opportunities in law and choose a path in undergraduate school to help them succeed," according to the DiscoverLaw.org website.
