Washburn Law Hosts Visiting Foreign Scholar Dr. David S. Berry from Barbados

The International and Comparative Law Center was pleased this week to host Visiting Foreign Scholar Dr. David S. Berry, Dean of Law, Faculty of Law from the University Of The West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Barbados.

In addition to meeting with various law school faculty and staff, and Washburn University administrators, Dr. Berry made two presentations. In a lunch time presentation to students on Wednesday, Dr. Berry discussed the nature of Caribbean legal systems, academic and vocational legal education, how individuals are called to the bar, and other Caribbean legal practices.

On Thursday, Dr. Berry talked to the law faculty about the Caribbean Court of Justice, its forms of jurisdiction, and some of the Court's recent decisions.

The Washburn Law Summer Study Abroad Program in Barbados provides students an opportunity to understand legal systems in the U.S. more fully through comparative study of the Caribbean system while living in a stimulating West Indian university environment and studying with Caribbean students and faculty.
