Maag Discusses State v. Dixon

Wallace L. Dixon III was convicted May 6, 2002 on two counts of first-degree felony murder, five counts of aggravated battery, two counts of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm. The convictions were the result of an explosion on July 29, 2001 in the apartment of Alicia Shaw, the sister of Dixon's girlfriend, Schelese Shaw. The explosion and ensuing fire resulted in the death of 19-year-old next door neighbor Dana Hudson and her 13-month-old son, Gabriel. Dixon was sentenced to consecutive life sentences and his case is currently on appeal.

Mr. Maag, Class of 1995, is currently a Captain in the Kansas Army National Guard, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. He was a member of the NATO-led peacekeeping force deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is also a member of the Kansas Judicial Council Death Penalty Advisory committee. Mr. Maag is one of six state attorneys chosen as a U.S. Supreme Court Fellow. He will spend the next four months attending oral arguments, drafting amicus briefs for the States that have cases pending before the court, and conducting moot courts for the Attorneys General who will be presenting those cases.
