Vic Braden Speaks About Prosecution Trial Techniques

Photograph: Vic Braden.The Center for Excellence in Advocacy hosted Lt. Col. Vic Braden, Class of 1998, Tuesday, February 3, 2004 as part of its Lecture & Luncheon speaker series. Col. Braden's talk was titled "Military Decision Making Process Applied to Criminal Prosecution."

Braden's lecture focused on the preparation of a prosecution case through the use of strategic thinking. He showed how to start developing the case from the moment it is assigned, shared his perspectives on trial skills, and provided insight about how to assess performance after a trial concludes in order to improve for the next one. Col. Braden is an assistant county attorney in Jefferson County, Kansas and a special consultant to the Adjutant General of Kansas. This fall he will attend Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government on a Fellowship. Col. Braden is an experienced prosecutor who has tried several homicide cases in Jefferson County. As commander of an aviation battalion he has recently returned from a one year tour of duty in Bosnia. He has served 23 years in the Kansas National Guard, is married with two children, and lives in Lawrence, Kansas. (Posted February 4, 2004)
