Washburn Law's Sam A. Crow American Inn of Court Receives National Award
The Sam A. Crow American Inn of Court in Topeka has been chosen to receive the award for 10th place in the 2002 National Program Awards of the American Inns of Court Foundation. Third year law student Shawn Lindsay was a member of the team of lawyers and judges that developed the September, 2001 program entitled "A Jury of Her Peers."
The American Inns of Court are patterned after the British Inns and bring together state and federal judges, leading trial lawyers, law faculty, recent graduates, other young lawyers and third year law students for monthly dinner meetings and programs that emphasize excellence in litigation, lawyering skills, professionalism and legal ethics. There are more than 400 Inns nationwide.
Each year, 12-14 Washburn students participate with 65 layers and judges in the Sam A. Crow Inn. Since the Inn was formed in 1992, a total of 119 students have been members.
The local Inn received the national Best Program Award in 1999 and received the Ninth Place award in 2001. The 2002 awards will be presented at the national Inns of Court Conference in Seattle on May 18, 2002.
