Fourth Annual John F. Kuether Memorial Golf Tournament
Almost $1,000 was raised for the John F. Kuether Memorial Scholarship Fund during the fourth annual John F. Kuether Memorial Golf Tournament held April 14, 2002, at Lake Shawnee Golf Course in Topeka. This charity event is held each spring for members of the Washburn Law School community and is sponsored by the Washburn University School of Law Student Division of the Kansas Bar Association. The 2002 tournament was organized by first year law student Ryan Knutson and featured 72 participants.
First place honors went to the team of Steve Tilton, Don Reif, Rusty Williams, and Terry Middendorf. Second place went to Greg Pease, Jim Concannon, Bob Bezek, and Mark Payne. Third place went to Brent Bowen, Dustin Walton, Kevin Muxlow, and the Honorable David Platt.
Professor John F. Kuether influenced the professional lives of thousands of students and alumni who passed through Washburn University School of Law between 1974 and 1998. Professor Kuether, who passed away in January 1999, was a huge fan of golf and a big supporter of the annual Washburn Open Golf Tournament. In 1999, the Washburn Open was renamed in his memory. Money raised by this golf tournament is donated to the Washburn University School of Law Scholarship Fund in his name.
