Washburn University School of Law Goes Wireless

Washburn University School of Law implemented a wireless network throughout the law school building during the Fall 2001 semester. Students can use their laptops to work on assignments, perform legal research, and check e-mail, all while they enjoy the comfort of an easy chair in the law library, a relaxing moment outdoors near the law school, or a bite to eat in the lounge areas.

Law students with laptops may purchase a standard wireless ethernet card from any number of local electronics stores. Several cards are also available for short-term checkout from the Law Library Circulation Desk. Law school computer staff assist students in configuring their card and laptop.

In addition to using the wireless network, students still have the option of plugging directly into the law school's network with wired connections in the law library.

Washburn University School of Law was recently ranked 29 out of 100 of the nation's most wired law schools in a survey conducted by the National Jurist magazine. The School of Law supports more than 50 workstations in 3 computer labs. The law school also upgraded and standardized classrooms during the summer 2001 break so faculty have up-to-date display projectors, computer workstations, and network access to assist with teaching their classes.
