Bernie Bianchino, 2000 Law School Alumni Fellow, Speaks

Photograph of Bernie BianchinoBernie Bianchino, '74, the Washburn Law School 2000 Alumni Fellow, spoke about "Communications Law -- Opportunities for the 21st Century" in Robinson Courtroom on October 12, 2000. Mr. Bianchino's presentation covered highlights from his career, and included discussion of the qualities clients seek in lawyers and the future for attorneys in the communications field.

Bianchino is Chief Executive Officer of Pegaso PCS in Mexico City, a privately held venture in which Sprint holds a $200 million minority interest. Pegaso PCS is developing mobile and fixed wireless services and wireline services throughout Mexico.

Mr. Bianchino graduated from Washburn Law School in 1974. He was Senior Attorney for the U.S. Department of Energy until 1978, then was counsel for Exxon Corporation for the next eight years. He joined U.S. Sprint as Vice President - Law, General Business in 1986. After eight years in that position, he spent one year as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Qwest Communications in Denver before joining Sprint PCS in 1995 as Chief Business Development Officer. From 1995 until June this year, Bianchino was Chief Business Development Office for Sprint PCS in Kansas City, Missouri. He has been a member of the Washburn Law School Association Board of Governors since 1990, currently serving as President-elect.

Washburn University established the Alumni Fellows Program to recognize alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers. Its goal is to bring successful alumni back to campus to meet with students and faculty to share their expertise.
