Lincoln Law Practice Papers Donated to Washburn Law Library

Mrs. Eidenmiller with Ambassador Lewis at Washburn University Law Library.Mrs. Ramona Eidenmiller, of Ohio, Illinois, has donated a copy of "The Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln: Complete Documentary Edition" to the Washburn University Law Library. Mrs. Eidenmiller’s donation is given in honor of Ambassador Delano Lewis, Class of 1963. Mrs. Eidenmiller attended the May 2000 Washburn Law School graduation and afterwards met with Ambassador Lewis and his wife. Linden Appel, Class of 1977, nephew of Mrs. Eidenmiller, and his family accompanied her to the ceremonies.

"The Law Practice of Abraham Lincoln" is a 3 DVD-ROM set comprising more than 14 GB of data and contains 100,000 legal documents totaling 250,000 pages. Between 1836 and 1861 Lincoln and his partners handled more that 5,600 cases in two dozen Illinois counties and often rode the circuit with the presiding judge and fellow attorneys. In addition to being the largest collection of Lincoln’s legal documents, the set provides a look at the law as it was practiced in the Midwest 150 years ago. The project to collect, reproduce, and organize this material took 15 years to complete.
