United States Court of Appeals Judge Alex Kozinski presented the 20th Foulston & Siefkin Law Journal Lecture on April 17, 1998 in Robinson Courtroom. Judge Kozinski gave a provocative critique of recent antitrust law decisions, challenging the theoretical underpinnings of antitrust jurisprudence since the 1970s.
The Foulston & Siefkin Lecture Series brings a prominent legal scholar to Washburn each spring. Each lecturer prepares an article for the Washburn Law Journal in addition to presenting the lecture.
When appointed to the Ninth Circuit in 1985, Judge Kozinski was the youngest federal appeals court judge since William Howard Taft. Kozinski had served as Chief Judge of the United States Claims Court from 1982-85. Previously he had clerked for Chief Justice Warren Burger and for Justice Anthony Kennedy when he was Judge of the Ninth Circuit. He also was Assistant Counsel in the Office of Counsel to the President under President Ronald Reagan.
Judge Kozinski is a prolific author of journal articles in addition to appellate opinions. Members of the editorial board of the Journal invited him to present the lecture after hearing his provocative keynote address at the National Conference of Law Reviews in March, 1997.
On the evening prior to his lecture, Judge Kozinski offered entertaining after dinner remarks at the annual combined Law Journal - Moot Court awards banquet.
