The Computer Services Coordinator is responsible for meeting the day to day computer needs of law students. He focuses on public workstations, special workstations, classroom workstations, public printers, and laptops.
All tasks require frequent consultation with users, and some day-to-day coordination between the Law School and main campus. Activities are reviewed on a continuous basis by the Associate Dean for Computer Services.
Duties:
- Supports and supervises the Law School Labs, public workstation areas, classroom workstation areas, public print areas, and Lexis and Westlaw print areas, by: Designing and implementing workstation user menus.
- Supervising student lab workers, student Westlaw workers, and student Lexis representatives.
- Maintaining (ordering) adequate inventories of supplies.
- Monitoring and tracking the use of printer consumables (paper, toner cartridges).
- Presenting group and individual instruction on email, word processing, spreadsheet, and other school related software.
- Designing and implementing adequate backup protocols for adequate staffing, providing services, and smooth operation during staffing changes.
- Maintaining user sign-up and scheduling sheets (web-based when possible).
- Recommending specific hardware and software needed to accomplish improvements.
- Determining needs through interviewing law students, faculty, staff and public patrons.
- Providing cost/budget analysis and semi-annual reports concerning relevant hardware.
- Coordinating requests for purchase of relevant software.
- Installing public workstation add-on software.
- Providing annual budget recommendations.
- Serving as Law School representative on relevant committees.
- Making recommendations concerning additional instructional materials.
- Developing procedures for the care of electronic media.
- Conducting a training program concerning care of such media.
- Designing an outreach program aimed at increased faculty awareness of electronic resources.
- Maintaining an inventory list of software and hardware.
- Providing direct contact with vendors.
- Maintaining a quality control program for the duties above.
- Providing technical support for the discussion group server.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Associate Dean for Computer Services.
