Network and System Analyst/Manager provides complex system-level support of multi-user operating systems hardware and software tools, including installation, configuration, maintenance and support of these systems. Requires extensive knowledge of systems analysis.

Designs and plans systems and serves as a team leader. May recommend or purchase systems. Reports to Associate Dean, Computer Services, School of Law. Consults with Associate Dean bi-weekly. Consults as needed with Washburn Information Technology Center for network improvements/changes.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Analyzes management needs regarding use of integrated data process in equipment or operations and processes. Specifically, investigates, plans, implements, tests, and debugs network operating system software (Win2000/2003 and some limited Linux).
  2. Programs with an appropriate simple web based language (i.e. PHP or Java) to carry out duties.
  3. Responsible for network file system data storage and backup. Monitors network bandwidth usage, network security (firewalls), and performs regular server audits.
  4. Provides for remote and secure enduser access to the file system.
  5. Plans, coordinates, and schedules investigations, feasibility studies and surveys, including economic evaluation of proposed and existing automatic data processing (i.e. grade distribution). Implements automatic data processing.
  6. Maintains and preserves all records of network server licensing agreements and monitors closely all deadlines associated with agreements.
  7. Designs and implements integrated hardware and software computer and information systems to meet department or organizational requirements. Initiates and installs all new server equipment for the Law School.
  8. Prepares on-line and hard copy documentation of server systems and user applications. Develops Standard Operating Procedures for the care of all Law School servers.
  9. Provides instruction and training to users and other employees on day-to-day network related procedures.
  10. Participates in budget planning, implementation, and monitoring for purchase of network and server systems.
  11. Maintains hardware and software. Assists in determining and identifying future hardware and software needs and purchases for the Law School.
  12. Provides application and logistical support to computer electronic exams.
  13. Serves as lead analyst in a design subgroup when appropriate, directing and integrating the Banner system.
  14. Records and maintains hardware and software inventories, site and/or server licensing, and user access and security.
  15. Provides network application support for:
    1. application software (antivirus);
    2. web servers (Washlaw, Washburnlaw, and others);
    3. e-mail distribution lists;
    4. law clinic client conflict manage;
    5. admissions recruitment application;
    6. ABA technology survey software;
    7. Career Services alumni tracking software.
  16. May supervise and/or lead student employees.
  17. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  18. Performs problem resolution and provides on-call support for computer/network systems.
  19. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
