Network and System Analyst/Manager provides complex system-level support of multi-user operating systems hardware and software tools, including installation, configuration, maintenance and support of these systems. Requires extensive knowledge of systems analysis.
Designs and plans systems and serves as a team leader. May recommend or purchase systems. Reports to Associate Dean, Computer Services, School of Law. Consults with Associate Dean bi-weekly. Consults as needed with Washburn Information Technology Center for network improvements/changes.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyzes management needs regarding use of integrated data process in equipment or operations and processes. Specifically, investigates, plans, implements, tests, and debugs network operating system software (Win2000/2003 and some limited Linux).
- Programs with an appropriate simple web based language (i.e. PHP or Java) to carry out duties.
- Responsible for network file system data storage and backup. Monitors network bandwidth usage, network security (firewalls), and performs regular server audits.
- Provides for remote and secure enduser access to the file system.
- Plans, coordinates, and schedules investigations, feasibility studies and surveys, including economic evaluation of proposed and existing automatic data processing (i.e. grade distribution). Implements automatic data processing.
- Maintains and preserves all records of network server licensing agreements and monitors closely all deadlines associated with agreements.
- Designs and implements integrated hardware and software computer and information systems to meet department or organizational requirements. Initiates and installs all new server equipment for the Law School.
- Prepares on-line and hard copy documentation of server systems and user applications. Develops Standard Operating Procedures for the care of all Law School servers.
- Provides instruction and training to users and other employees on day-to-day network related procedures.
- Participates in budget planning, implementation, and monitoring for purchase of network and server systems.
- Maintains hardware and software. Assists in determining and identifying future hardware and software needs and purchases for the Law School.
- Provides application and logistical support to computer electronic exams.
- Serves as lead analyst in a design subgroup when appropriate, directing and integrating the Banner system.
- Records and maintains hardware and software inventories, site and/or server licensing, and user access and security.
- Provides network application support for:
- application software (antivirus);
- web servers (Washlaw, Washburnlaw, and others);
- e-mail distribution lists;
- law clinic client conflict manage;
- admissions recruitment application;
- ABA technology survey software;
- Career Services alumni tracking software.
- May supervise and/or lead student employees.
- Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
- Performs problem resolution and provides on-call support for computer/network systems.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree; at least four years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsiblities specified.
OR
- Successful completion of at least sixty college-level credit hours; at least six years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsbilities specified.

- Ability to make financial evaluations and proposals regarding current and/or future hardware and software capabilities/requirements.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Knowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user computer systems, applications, and/or equipment.
- Abliity to design, develop, and implement integrated hardware/software systems solutions to organizational requirements.
- Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Ability to develop and write systems and applications documentation and guides for users.
- Ability to provide a range of systems training and/or support activities for users.
- Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
- Knowlege of procurement rules and regulations.
- Knowlege of customer service standards and procedures.
- Ability to determine the nature of computer hardware and systems software problems, and to communicate technical guidance and information to users.
- Knowlege of computer security procedures and protocol.
- Knowlege of federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.
