Clinic Interns

Interns practicing under the supervision of Professor Francis represent clients who have been charged with misdemeanors and low level felonies. A few of the subject matters of their cases include, theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a weapon, criminal trespass and driving under the influence. This semester, two students have also worked on a Federal Habeas Corpus matter.

These interns practice in the Topeka Municipal Court, Shawnee County District Court and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

Professor Petty supervises interns specializing in family law cases such as divorce, adoption, and paternity. In addition, interns serve as guardian ad litem in child in need of care cases where they confront issues of truancy, teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol addiction, mental illness, special education, and running from placements. Further, interns file immigration petitions for abused women seeking legal status.

In Professor Organick's Tribal Court practice section, interns represent clients in both criminal and family law cases. Her interns practice in a variety of jurisdictions including Topeka Municipal Court, Shawnee County District Court, Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and Kickapoo Tribal Courts. Cases range from divorces to possession of paraphernalia and aggravated assault.

Interns practicing under the supervision of Professor Waugh are representing clients in general civil matters. Their cases include tort and insurance issues, copyright infringement, landlord/tenant, consumer matters, quiet title actions, and drafting Wills and Durable Powers of Attorney.
