The Center for Excellence in Advocacy Teams with the Law Clinic
Students active in The Center for Excellence in Advocacy answered the Law Clinic's need for help by volunteering to provide investigatory support. The investigations primarily consist of accompanying Law Clinic interns when they interview witnesses or view locations that are relevant to Clinic cases. Investigators could possibly be called upon to testify at hearings or trials if needed.
Volunteer investigators are bound by the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers but do not have to obtain their student practice license.
"The support provided by the CEA student investigators is tremendously valuable to our cases and clients. First, it let's Clinic interns be active with case investigations without becoming witnesses themselves. Second, they get to collaborate on strategy with energetic and motivated students from CEA. In turn, CEA students in their fist and second years get a window into the work done in the Law Clinic and can see first hand the benefits that participation in the Clinic will have on their careers. We hope to continue this collaboration in years to come." J. Francis, Law Clinic Director, commented.
This semester the Law Clinic is receiving assistance from Mark Brinkworth, Paul Hendrix, Jon Noble, and Andy Roberts.
