Recent Alum Reflects On Clinic Internship

Photograph: Steven Ellis."Washburn Law Clinic afforded me the opportunity to learn the practical application of the law with the safety-net of skilled practitioners. The opportunity to practice with a talented group of students, supported by experienced attorneys and staff dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable in our society, created an experience that I am unlikely to replicate. The tangible skills I learned while a part of the Clinic have been invaluable in my practice, and if my experience had ended there, it would still have been meaningful. Instead, the faculty and staff dedicate themselves to teaching beyond the mechanical, affording interns the opportunity to learn not only how to be a lawyer, but what it means to be a lawyer, instilling in the interns each lawyer's obligation to our profession through our obligation to our community. My Law Clinic experience gave me a foundation upon which to build my own practice, and though I am a solo, because of my experiences and relationships formed through the Clinic, I have never felt alone in practice. For students considering Law Clinic, it is an experience worthy of pursuit."
