Washburn Law Clinic 35th Anniversary
On September 10, 2005, the Law Clinic celebrated its 35th anniversary in grand fashion. Clinic alumni and former faculty and staff were invited to celebrate along with special guests, faculty and staff at the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center.
The alumni event recognized the important role that Washburn played in the development of clinical education at law schools across the country. In 1970, Washburn opened the doors to the Law Clinic. Although many law schools now have some type of clinical program, in 1970, the concept was revolutionary. Early on, Washburn made a commitment to providing a legal education that prepares law students for the practice of law. Over the years this commitment has remained steady, resulting in the well-developed and well-respected program that the Law Clinic has consistently been since its inception.
Featured speakers for the evening were Dean Honabach, President Jerry Farley, Professor Jim Concannon, Professor John Francis, Billy Rork ('79), and Teri Canfield-Eye ('02).
Special guests were Drew and Heather Rowland, who attended on behalf of Jan Rowland, Don Rowland’s wife; Lois Spring, wife of Ray Spring, and their daughter, Stephanie Spring.
Don Rowland and Ray Spring were instrumental in establishing the Clinic in 1970, making it one of the oldest law clinic’s in the nation.
Attendees danced to the music of "The Benders".
