Transactional Law Clinic
Starting in the Fall semester of 2005, students can enroll in the Transactional Law Clinic. In this program students will provide corporate and transactional services to small businesses, nonprofit organizations and neighborhood groups in underrepresented communities. Client projects may include counseling small businesses and nonprofit organizations on choice of business entity and form of organization; structuring the formation, operation, and governance of small businesses and nonprofit organizations; real estate acquisition; contract negotiations and drafting; land use and zoning matters; and, counsel on community economic development projects. Students may also provide community education and training sessions and serve as advocates for legislation related to business and community development issues. The students' practical application of their legal and counseling skills is buttressed by seminars that focus on ethics in group representation, client interviewing, negotiation, laws governing businesses and tax-exempt charitable organizations, and legal writing. The transactional law practice also is a natural complement to the Business and Transactional Center.
