Clinic Welcomes Two New Faculty Members
By Professor John J. Francis
The Clinic has added two talented and dynamic professors to the Clinic ranks. Professors Organick (above left) and Jackson (above right) were highly sought after on the national clinical stage. Professor Organick is developing a new area of practice in the Clinic focusing on serving Native members of our community. This undertaking is leading to the development of an ongoing relationship with Haskell University an area tribal courts.
Professor Jackson is laying the groundwork for development of a Business and Transactional Clinic that will, among other things assist non-profit organizations and small businesses. We plan to launch that clinical program in the Fall semester of 2005.
Additionally, with the assistance of the Appellate Defender's Office, the Clinic experienced another area of growth. The law school is now offering a clinical opportunity in criminal appellate work. Professor Nathan Webb joined our faculty in a position funded by the Appellate Defender's Office in which he is supervising students who represent clients in criminal appeals. The students draft appellate briefs and argue cases before the Kansas Court of Appeals. Students participating in the appellate defense clinic enroll separately from the other Clinic offerings.
