Dr. Ian Curry-Sumner is Spring 2008 CFLC Scholar in Residence

Photograph: Ian Curry-Sumner.Ian Curry-Sumner will visit Washburn University School of Law from April 2-4, 2008 as the Spring 2008 Children and Family Law Center Scholar in Residence. During his visit Dr. Curry-Sumner will visit classes and make presentations to students and faculty.

Dr. Curry-Sumner, MA (Cantab), Ph.D., graduated in law in 2001 with a first class honors degree from Christ's College, Cambridge, United Kingdom. In 2005 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in Utrecht on the substantive and private international law aspects of non-marital registered relationships in Europe. Dr. Curry-Sumner is now a university lecturer in private international law (conflicts of law) and comparative law at the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law of the Faculty of Law, Utrecht University. He has lectured and presented on a wide variety of topics in the field of English law, family law and private international law both in and outside The Netherlands. Dr. Curry-Sumner has co-taught Comparative U.S. and European Family Law in the Washburn-Utrecht Summer Law Program and Utrecht University recently appointed him as the Utrecht Academic Coordinator of the Summer Law Program. In 2007 he was the only legal academic in The Netherlands awarded the prestigeous VENI research grant, focusing on a comparative law study of child support in Europe. Dr. Curry-Sumner was recognized as the 2007-2008 Utrecht University Young Lecturer of the Year.
