Family Law Student Society 2005-2006 Coordinators

Photograph: Dallas Bauer.Dallas Bauer is a third year law student originally from Burden, Kansas. Her heart beats for children! After graduating from Emporia State University in 1995, she taught elementary and middle school for eight years in various urban school districts. In addition to her work with the Children and Family Law Center, Dallas serves as the student liaison to the ABA's Steering Committee on the Unmet Legal Needs of Children. She is currently a child advocate for CASA of Shawnee County, Sponsor a Scholar Mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a mediator and community panelist for the Victim Offender Mediation Project at the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice. Dallas serves on the Shawnee County Community Corrections Advisory Board and is involved with the local YMCA as a tee ball coach and member of the Downtown Branch Advisory Board. As the recipient of the Washburn School of Law's Barristers' Public Interest Externship Scholarship, Dallas spent the summer of 2005 interning for a local Guardian Ad Litem. During the 2005-2006 school year, she will be a legal intern for the Washburn Law Clinic, specializing in children and family issues. Dallas enjoys spending quality time with her four year old son, Malik, and looks forward to remaining in Topeka upon graduating from law school. Dallas is the Student Coordinator for the lunchtime speaker series sponsored by the Center.

Photograph: Sara Martin.Sara Martin is a third year law student from Fort Scott, Kansas. She graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1998 with a B.S. in social work. In 2001 Sara earned a Masters Degree in Social Welfare from the University of Kansas. Prior to law school, Sara was a Peace Corps volunteer serving in Jamaica. Upon her return to the United States, she worked in the Kansas City area with children and families as a program administrator in a social service agency. In addition to her work with the Children and Family Law Center, Sara is working for the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office in the Family Law Division. Sara is the Student Coordinator for continuing legal education and other programming opportunities.

Photograph: Stefanie Benson.Stefanie Benson is a third year law student from Shawnee, Kansas. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1996 with a B.S. in psychology and human and organizational development. Prior to law school, Stefanie was employed as a business operations manager for an internet start-up company in Southern California and as a pre-school teacher in Overland Park, Kansas. Stefanie's legal experience includes interning during Summer 2005 for Kansas Legal Services in Topeka, where she focused primarily in the areas of domestic and elder law. She is currently an intern in the Washburn Law Clinic, practicing in the area of domestic law. Additionally, Stefanie is a member of the Washburn Law Journal, having written about the constitutional rights of juvenile homosexuals and the role of the guardian ad litem in the state of Kansas. Stefanie is the Student Coordinator for pro bono projects for the Family Law Student Society and is responsible for ensuring current content on the Children and Family Law Center’s website.
