Volunteer as an ITAP Juror or Witness

ITAP is an intense seven-day program beginning May 18, 2008. Participants in ITAP improve their skills in direct and cross examination, the use of evidence, and closing arguments. They listen to lectures and discussions, view demonstrations, and participate in workshop sessions that hone their trial skills through practice. The mock trials on Saturday, May 24, permit students to immediately use what they have learned.

Members of the Topeka and surrounding communities are being asked to serve as jurors and witnesses during Washburn University School of Law mock trials on Saturday, May 24, 2008. Forty Washburn Law students participating in the spring semester Intensive Trial Advocacy Program (ITAP) will put their skills to the test during the final mock trials. The trials will be held at the Shawnee County Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
About 80 volunteers are needed to serve as jurors and witnesses during the mock trials. These volunteers will have the opportunity to hear a mock criminal case, and will be asked to deliberate and decide the cases they hear.
NOTE: Serving as a witness requires reading preparatory material that will be provided prior to the day of the trials.
