Centers for Excellence
Washburn Law's curriculum is enriched and energized by our three signature programs: the Business and Transactional Law Center, the Center for Excellence in Advocacy and the Children and Family Law Center.
Each Center focuses on a particular area of law to ensure that students gain a thorough understanding of that practice area. Because of their advanced research and continuing legal education programs, the Centers are also valuable resources for the legal community.
Within their respective focus areas, the Centers identify and develop a variety of programs and activities that allow students to collaborate with faculty, alumni, experienced lawyers, and other professionals who are eager to share their scholarship and experience. Students often participate in the design of Center-sponsored activities, from inviting guest speakers for informal lectures to developing workshops and related events.
Collectively, the Centers form an extensive "learning network" that connects law students to experienced professionals and classroom study to real-world practice. Through the Centers, Washburn Law students acquire knowledge, skills, and professional contacts that many lawyers do not gain until well after graduation.
