Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition and Expenses

Tuition for the three credit course is only slightly higher than for a three credit course undertaken at Washburn in Topeka. Expenses include airfare, housing in Osaka, food and other incidentals. Virtually all of these expenses are eligible for financial aid. Tuition details, and estimated expenses, are provided in an Estimated Student Budget (32 KB PDF). While this budget provides for an airfare of $1,800, in 2018 students were able to purchase airline tickets for approximately $1,200 - so the budget may end up being cheaper depending on prevailing airfares.

Scholarships

Washburn University provides scholarship awards to Washburn Law students to defray costs of study abroad programs. Apply by March 1 in order to ensure your consideration for a WU International Programs scholarship.

Financial Aid

Financial aid applies to law credits earned through accredited study abroad programs. For summer study abroad, we strongly recommend that you begin the process with your university's financial aid office by February 30.

Summer financial aid awards typically do not arrive until three or more weeks into the program. To ensure that students are funded on time, Washburn University makes bridge loans available to law students, which are then automatically paid when the student's financial aid award is disbursed. Please consult the Director of International Legal Programs in advance, and please apply for the full amount.
