Professor Kowalski is the law school's Director of International Legal Programs. The Director of International Legal Programs develops and maintains study abroad and overseas exchange programs for law students. The Director also provides academic counseling and administrative support to students interested in studying abroad through Washburn Law or other law schools, and serves as faculty coordinator for the Summer Law Program in Barbados.
Professor Kowalski's significant international teaching experience includes:
- Presenting multiple legal writing and teaching workshops and guest lectures to law students, practitioners, academics, and government employees under a State Department USAID program in Georgia (Caucasus region of Eurasia);
- Serving as scholar-in-residence and visiting professor at Symbiosis Law School, Pune, India (returning in July-August 2015); and
- Training in teaching methods for visiting professors from Chile through the Institute for Law Teaching and Learning.
At an early age, Professor Kowalski began to travel abroad to visit family in Poland and the U.K., and continues to travel there frequently. Later, she also studied abroad as an undergraduate student, spending both a summer and an academic year at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland through the University of Florida. Professor Kowalski earned her J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1995.
In addition to her international teaching experience, Professor Kowalski also teaches the International Law of Indigenous Peoples course for J.D. students at Washburn Law.
